To install or upgrade Real Player on your Macintosh, follow these steps:

  1. Be sure you actually need to install the software, you may already have it
  2. In the $$$ menu in the Finder, choose the Find menu item
  3. Find all occurences of the word: real in filenames  there may be a few

  4. NB: you may have other files with the word real in the title.  The files you need to delete are ONLY the ones associated with your old Real Player
  5. Move the old Real files to the trash and empty the trash from the Finder Special/Empty Trash menu item
  6. In the case of multiple identical filenames, remove one at a time, and Empty Trash each time.
Then download and install the new one:
  1. If your Operating system is newer than 8.1 you can use the Free Real Player Basic 7.0
  2. If your Operating system is 8.1 or older (displayed at startup) you will need to run the old Free Real Player version 5
  3. Download the correct installer from the above link
  4. Double-click on the Real Installer application
  5. Follow the install instructions
  6. Register your software to properly configure your Player for your bandwidth. (careful of all the mailing list check boxes)
