Miami-Caribbean Counter Drug Program May Be Pulled

08 Jun 2006 (CBS4/AP) MIAMI Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld wants to end Army helicopter support for a joint U.S.-Bahamas counter-drug program.

The proposal is raising questions about the future of a decades-long effort that has resulted in hundreds of arrests and the seizure of tons of cocaine and marijuana. Experts are also concerned because South Florida is feared to reach the drug trafficking levels experienced in the 80’s as the federal government tightens security around the Mexican border.

Salvia: A Legal Buzz?

05 Jun 2006 The buzz is growing around salvia. Most people have not heard of the herb. But salvia is called the biggest legal buzz that money can buy. At least it is legal in Georgia.

Salvia Divinorum is an herb in the mint family, and it can get people high.

“Most people take a puff and laugh their butt off,” said Zach Lockhart of the NC-17 Smoke Shop. “Feel like you’re in a different place. Things look funny, you get tunnel-vision, and everything’s hysterical.”

It is perfectly legal, at least in Georgia. Salvia is illegal in Missouri and Louisiana and many foreign countries.

“In my research, it’s compared to LSD, but a lot less potent,” said Dr. Suiatha Reddy.
