Report Released Wednesday Alleged Abuse Of 192 Men 19 Jul 2006 (CBS) CHICAGO A report released Wednesday says there is evidence that Chicago Police mistreated suspects under former Cmdr. Jon Burge, but the crimes are too old to prosecute.

Special prosecutors Robert D. Boyle and Edward J. Egan released their long-awaited report on allegations that Chicago homicide detectives in the 1970s and 1980s tortured African-American men in interrogation rooms.

B.C. men who dug drug tunnel to U.S. sentenced

16 Jul 2006 U.S. district attorneys said three British Columbia men hoped to make more than $100,000 a day smuggling marijuana through a cross-border tunnel. Instead, the men will spend nine years in prison.

180 pounds of marijuana seized at border

12 Jul 2006 The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department seized 180 pounds of marijuana at the border.

Sheriff John Burns said a suspicious tractor trailer was pulled over at US Customs Monday.

Officials said the marijuana has a street value of about $800,000.

Medical marijuana ordinance passes

12 Jul 2006 BAKERSFIELD - Kern County Supervisors have approved an ordinance that will give sheriff’s deputies the power to view the sales records of businesses that dispense medical marijuana.

The new ordinance will also allow deputies, who have a warrant, to find out the names of the patients using the drug.

Originally, the sheriff department wanted access to all patient and financial records, as well as information on firearms being kept in the pot dispensaries.

ACLU backs CA's medical marijuana law

08 Jul 2006 The American Civil Liberties Union is stepping in to defend California's medical marijuana law in the wake of Thursday's raids of medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego.
